Akane Kawakami avait publié en 2000 un des premiers ouvrages complets sur Patrick Modiano en langue anglaise, intitulé A Self-Conscious Art : Patrick Modiano’s Postmodern Fictions (Liverpool University Press).
Une nouvelle édition de ce livre, enrichie de deux chapitres qui évoquent notamment le prix Nobel de littérature remis à Modiano, est parue en décembre 2015 chez le même éditeur.
